As an important part of steel products, steel pipes are divided into two categories: seamless steel pipes (round billets) and welded steel pipes (slabs, strip billets) due to their different manufacturing processes and different shapes of billets used. Seamless steel pipes are divided into hot-rolled (extruded) seamless steel pipes and cold-drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipes due to their different manufacturing processes. Cold drawn (rolled) tubes are divided into two types: round tubes and special-shaped tubes. The blanks used for welded steel pipes are steel plates or steel strips. Due to their different production processes, they are mainly divided into high-frequency longitudinally welded steel pipes (ERW), spiral submerged arc welded steel pipes (SSAW) and longitudinally submerged arc welded steel pipes (LSAW). 1. The competitive landscape of my country's welded pipe industry
At present, there are more than 2,000 welded steel pipe companies in China, and the top 11 major welded steel pipe companies have a combined production capacity of more than 12.15 million tons, accounting for about 1/5 of the country's total welded steel pipe production capacity, and the industry concentration is low. In recent years, the technical level of my country's welded steel pipe production equipment has been further improved. At present, the production units that account for more than 50% of my country's annual output of welded steel pipes are of the international advanced level, and some have reached the international leading level. The quality of welded steel pipe products has also been further improved, which has basically been able to meet domestic demand. In terms of the specific competition pattern, the domestic welded steel pipe industry has formed a competition pattern in which state-owned enterprises in the petroleum and petrochemical, metallurgical systems and under the steel manufacturing enterprises coexist with latecomer private enterprises and foreign-funded enterprises.
2. International competition of welded pipes
After 2005, the steel pipe output of traditional welded steel pipe manufacturing countries represented by Germany, Italy, and Japan has been steadily declining. With the rapid economic development of developing countries, the output of welded steel pipes in emerging countries represented by China and Turkey has increased year by year. Not only is the output approaching or far surpassing traditional steel pipe manufacturing countries, the gap in technology level and manufacturing process is also getting smaller and smaller. Among them, large-diameter thick-walled LSAW steel pipes are traditionally produced in countries such as Germany, Japan, the United States, Canada, and Italy. Countries that have recently developed rapidly include China, India, and Turkey. At present, most LSAW steel pipe production bases are still concentrated in Europe. Manufacturers in Germany, Japan and other countries have strong production capacity and are the main suppliers of high-end products. In recent years, the United States, Canada and other countries have been at a disadvantage in global competition. Some of their manufacturers have closed their factories or transferred production to third world countries. In the context of the steady increase in global demand for oil and gas pipes, emerging market countries such as China and India have quickly seized the international market share of LSAW steel pipes by virtue of their labor costs and raw material prices.
